The McLeansville Fire Department Training Division directs the education and training needs of 10 career firefighters and over 30 volunteer firefighters.
The McLeansville Fire Department Training Division is responsible for the delivery and reinforcement of basic fire fighter skills training such as fire hose deployment and use, ladders, and SCBA use and familiarity, all the way to vehicle extrication and HazMat response. These training’s includes classroom, hands on training ground practice, and performance evaluations of skills learned. McLeansville Fire Department additionally participates with combined multi-company training drills with other surrounding fire departments.
Coupled with fire and rescue is training in emergency medicine. Emergency medical intervention consistently accounts for a large volume of the requests to 911 for assistance. For training purposes, this means that our fire fighters receive initial training and then spend a good part of their available training hours studying, practicing, and being tested on their skills as emergency medical technicians. Emergency Medical Technician Firefighters are required to maintain their skills as EMTs by completing monthly Continuing Education, annual required Continuing Education on critical subjects, and re-certification by both Guilford County and the State of North Carolina every four years.
Through the Training Division, the McLeansville Fire Department also supports training outside the routine in-house
provided instruction. We encourage our members to attend fire-service related classes at the community college level, at the National Fire Academy, and through regional programs that prepare fire fighters for higher levels of responsibility within the organization.
